Lily Creek Ridge is a premier sport horse breeding facility. Following the European method of Sport Horse breeding, we have bred Trakehner, Dutch Warmblood, Thoroughbred, and Arabian mares to purebred Shagya stallions.
In 2002, three Shagya stallions were imported from Europe and will be used beginning in 2003 to advance the purebred Shagya herd in the U.S. They will also be valuable new genetic material for the Sport Horse breeder who would prefer not to use the purebred Arabian for crossbreeding.
The farm is using frozen semen from stallions in Europe, including Bahadur, a black, 16 HH, Shagya stallion, who is winning combined events against all breeds! He is a wonderful example of this new/old breed, bred by the Austro-Hungarians for 200 years.
A foal by Lafayette,
*Sixtus son, resulted in a filly in 2002. *Sixtus is an elite TK stallion
and a son of Habicht that has close-up Shagya breeding. This bloodline excels
in sport events. Windfall is also a Habicht son! Windfall just won a PanAm
Gold at Fairhill, MD., Oct. '03
The Shagya breed
is very rare and only about 150 exist in the U.S. They excel in temperament,
training aptitude and a modified baroque conformation that is a natural
for riding many disciplines. In fact the Shagya is a wonderful, versatile,
comrade that can be used for a lifetime. They are very sound and athletic.
